After a lovely relaxing holiday in Jordan are we now back in Yemen again. While we were in Aqaba it was next to impossible to get the kids out of the hotel pool but we managed to visit both Petra and Wadi Rum where Lawrence of Arabia fought the Otoman Empire. We stayed at the Intercontinental hotel and it was lovely (we can highly recomend it should anyone want to visit Jordan) - The kids loved to very warm childrens pool and we all got a healthy color (Liva and Lieke more than Joop and Henrik). Petra was absolutely amazing and we also got to see the dead sea from the distance on the way back to the airport. Aqaba was like most resort towns but was situated nice by the absolut top of the Red Sea. From our room we could see both Egypt, Israel and Saudi Arabia. We are now back in Yemen, just in time to celebrate the Dutch Queens Day.

Liva turned six on the 4 April, and she managed to get two parties this year. First, on her birthday we had a reception for approximately 50 people, and as many of them brough their kids we also had a Piñata. On Wednesday we had the real party for Liva's friends. At the party we had another Piñata and lots of games. As it should the party ended with a Cake. One of the fun things about living in Yemen is that most of the imports are from China - So we get most of the plastic junk but also some of the more inovative things down here. As you can see on the picture, the candle on the cake was a lotus flower that initially was closed but when lit opened up while playing a small tune. When it opened up it revealed a candle on each of the lotus pedals.
Through the Yemenis are not celebrating Easter, we of course still had to go out and find eggs. One of Lieke's colleagues from the Embassy had been nice enough to provide us with some chocolade eggs, which was good, as even the Kinder Eggs were sold out at the local supermarket. We started the day with a nice easter brunch after which we painted eggs followed by the egg seach in the garten. All in all we had a nice day.
